Lagarde confirms IMF candidacy, Brics unhappy

Christine Lagarde, the French finance minister, on Wednesday confirmed she is in the running to become the next managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Lagarde said in a press conference in Paris that she had received calls from numerous countries offering support for her candidacy. She said she acted with the full support of the French prime minister and president and that this was a "huge challenge" she would face "with humility".
