Strauss-Kahn bows to pressure and quits
Succumbing to mounting pressure, Dominique Strauss-Kahn has resigned as managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In a letter posted on the IMF's website on Thursday he said it was with "infinite sadness" that he felt "compelled" to stand down from the role.
Maintaining his innocence he said he wanted to devote all his "strength... time... and energy" to proving that he did not commit the crimes he is accused of.
