Axel Weber, the president of the Bundesbank, has said he will not let his future career path dissuade him from speaking his mind, as murmurings over his suitability for the top job at the European Central Bank (ECB) have intensified.

"I have been an outspoken, stability-oriented politician over the past three decades, and I am not going to change this," Weber said on Monday at an event in Stuttgart, Germany. In comments confirmed by the Bundesbank, he added: "If that's going to have implications
