Poland cuts interest rates by 100 bp

POLAND - Poland's Monetary Policy Council (MPC) cut its interest rates on Mar 28, 2001 by 100 basis points to between 17 and 21 percent, the National Bank of Poland said in a statement. Poland's main money market rate is now at 17 percent and the emergency lombard lending rate at 21 percent.

Most analysts expected the 10-member MPC to cut interest rates either in Mar 2001 or April 2001 after inflation fell to 6.6 percent in Feb 2001 from 8.5 percent in Dec 2000. The MPC aims to curb inflation to
