Subject matter specialist Dan Hardie discusses central banks’ powers, governors, profits and staffing

The Governance Benchmarks 2023 reveal differences in frameworks between central banks in advanced and emerging market economies.

For central banks from advanced economies, the law was more likely to split the power to nominate and confirm governors. In 72% of advanced economies, central banks said those two powers were exercised. The same was true of just 44% of participants from emerging market economies.

Among sampled central banks from emerging market economy (EME) countries, 100% said
