High income central banks allocate most time to research
Research economists are more numerous and are allotted more research time in high income jurisdictions
Economists are allocated the most time to conduct their own research projects at central banks in high income economies, the Economics Benchmarks 2023 finds.
Globally, research economists devote an average of 43.7% of their working hours to research topics, while policy economists have 20.1% of their time devoted to research. Thirty-two central banks supplied data to this benchmark question.
The figure for research economists climbs to 50.9% for high income jurisdictions, though policy economists
