Visual aids nearly universal on banknotes

Majority of respondents use four or five features on their paper currency

Virtually all the central banks in the Currency Benchmarks 2023 include at least one visual aid on banknotes for the blind or partially sighted. Of 31 respondents, only one central bank said it included none of the listed visual aids.

Among respondents, 18 (58.1%) said they used four kinds of visual aids. These include six central banks within the eurozone – thus, the 18 respondents represent 13 separate currencies. Two more central banks – both from small Asian jurisdictions – have five
