UK-based company is helping central banks monitor lifespan of banknotes

Cash usage around the world is declining. But the volume of cash in circulation continues to grow, as consumers are increasingly using it, for instance, as a store of value. This somewhat counterintuitive trend is altering assumptions about the lifecycle of banknotes, as a gap emerges between cash in actual use and in circulation.

De La Rue is helping central banks – particularly smaller ones – to better understand this and other dynamics, and to anticipate future repercussions for currency
