IMF proposes $50bn plan to ‘end the Covid-19 pandemic’
“Upfront” financing is needed to accelerate vaccinations, say Georgieva, Gopinath and Agarwal
International Monetary Fund research estimates $50 billion could be enough to bring the Covid-19 pandemic under control, if countries can be persuaded to offer “upfront” financing and donations.
Kristalina Georgieva, Gita Gopinath and Ruchir Agarwal argue countries should take urgent steps to improve the availability of vaccines, targeting 40% vaccination worldwide in 2021 and 60% by the middle of 2022.
In a blogpost, they urge countries to offer grants to the Covax shared vaccine initiative
