Japanese slightly less gloomy on economy

The Japanese public are slightly less pessimistic on the fate of their economy, the Bank of Japan's 42nd Opinion Survey, published on Monday, showed.

The results of the survey, based on interviews with 4,000 people between May and June, showed that 6.2% thought that economic conditions were now better than a year ago, up from 2% in March. However, many were still pessimistic, with 47.4% saying that conditions had worsened, though this had fallen from 64% in March.
