Yellen wins Senate committee approval

Janet Yellen is one step closer to the Federal Reserve chairmanship after securing the approval of the US Senate Banking Committee.

Yellen was widely expected to pass the first stage of the confirmation process after Bob Corker, a leading Republican senator, yesterday announced he would support her candidacy. She was approved with 14 votes for and eight against.
