Bank of Korea finds slight increase in North Korean GDP for 2011

The North Korean economy grew for the first time since 2008 last year, with GDP growth for 2011 estimated at 0.8%, according to the latest statistics released by South Korea's central bank today (July 9).

Seoul-based Bank of Korea said North Korean growth was largely driven by the agriculture sector, which grew 5.3%, aided by favourable weather conditions, and construction, which grew 3.9%, boosted by a modernisation project in Pyongyang. However, manufacturing slowed by 3%, while electricity
