Czech deputy counters interference claims

Miroslav Singer, a vice-governor at the Czech National Bank (CNB), has rebuffed claims that the Vaclav Klaus, the country's president, is compromising the institution's independence.

Writing in Hospoda Øske Noviny, a Czech newspaper, Singer dismissed claims made two weeks ago by Jan Mladek, a member of parliament and former government minister, that Klaus was appointing economists to the CNB's board who share his anti-euro stance so that rates would continue to be set in Prague at levels below
