Administrative data is most popular alternative data source

Central banks make use of a wide range of non-traditional data sources

More than four-fifths of central banks draw on multiple sources of alternative data, with administrative data the most popularly cited.

Twenty-five out of 30 respondents to Economics Benchmarks 2020 said they use at least two of the following sources of alt data: administrative, scraped, Google search, social media, text mining and ‘other’. Only 13% use all the named alt-data sources, however.
